Men’s affairs

The core issues of a progressive policy for men are: promoting awareness for equal partnerships, active fatherhood, men's health, speaking out against violence by boys and men, breaking down outdated role clichés as well as offering a service for concerns specific to men.

The Department for Men's Policy Issues in the Federal Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Consumer Protection is characterised above all by a contemporary attitude to the current needs of men in the sense of a progressive equality policy. Breaking down handed-down clichés and role models is a great challenge, both in relation to increased participation by fathers in bringing up children and also fundamentally in families and partnerships. Strengthening paternal leave is also viewed as an important step towards a fair dialogue between the sexes. As a coordinated equality policy which is orientated towards the needs of men and women can only be carried out in coordination with other policy-making bodies, there is cooperation with other ministries, the provincial governments and also important men's policy organisations and associations.
